Tuesday 26 May: sites and services today and this week...

Monday collections today Tuesday after the Bank Holiday and all this week's pick-ups - recycling, rubbish, garden waste - are one day later, including Friday collections on Saturday 30 May.

Entire recycling sites network is back in action, with new materials - metals, engine oil, cooking oil - taken this week. Announcements will be made as and when other materials are added to the list of those taken. Sites will be open and closed on the following temporary schedule.

Tuesday 26 May 9am-6pm (even number plates only): 15 sites open: Bridgwater, Castle Cary, Chard, Cheddar, Crewkerne, Frome, Highbridge, Minehead, Somerton, Street, Taunton, Wellington, Wells, Williton, Yeovil.
This site closed: Dulverton.

Wednesday 27 May 9am-6pm (odd number plates only): Ten sites open: Bridgwater, Chard, Frome, Highbridge, Minehead, Street, Taunton, Wellington, Wells, Yeovil.
These sites closed: Castle Cary, Cheddar, Crewkerne, Dulverton, Somerton, Williton.

Thursday 28 May: ALL CLOSED

Friday 29 May 9am-6pm (even number plates only): Ten sites open. Bridgwater, Chard, Frome, Highbridge, Minehead, Street, Taunton, Wellington, Wells, Yeovil.
These sites closed: Castle Cary, Cheddar, Crewkerne, Dulverton, Somerton, Williton.

Saturday 30 May 9am-4pm (odd number plates only): all 16 sites open

Sunday 31 May 9am-4pm (even number plates only): all 16 sites open.

Odd-even number plate system applies to all vehicles on all days at all sites:
• Odd (01, 03, 29 etc) - Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays only
• Even (10, 20, 36 etc)- Tuesdays, Fridays, Sundays only
• All sites closed Thursdays

All other restrictions remain:
• Gloves to be worn outside vehicles
• Maximum two people per household
• Strict social distancing
• Site staff cannot offer manual assistance with heavy items
• No people with COVID-19 symptoms, or those asked to shield
• Access "one in, one out"
• Reduced parking bays and no access to usual recycling skips to ensure social distancing
• No trailers or 3.5 tonne vans 9am-4pm.
• If holding permits - see https://www.somersetwaste.gov.uk/apply-for-a-permit/ - single-axle short trailers and 3.5 tonne vans, including pick-ups, motorhomes or minibuses, can use open sites 4pm-6pm weekdays.
• Permits system still applies; no vans over 3.5 tonnes, no double-axle trailers, or vans, pick-ups, motorhomes or minibuses towing trailers, at any time)
• No pedestrian or bicycle access

Only these materials will be taken:
• Black sack rubbish (landfilled in Somerset)
• Bulky items, such as furniture (landfilled in Somerset)
• Garden waste (composted in Somerset)
• Large electricals, such as cookers, fridges, TVs (recycled in UK)
• Household hazardous waste, such as solvents, garden chemicals, paint thinners and antifreeze (treated and disposed of in UK)
• NEW - Cooking and engine oils in disposable containers; maximum size five litres (recycled in UK)
• NEW - Metals (recycled in UK)

Not taken unless essential (will be landfilled):
• Anything recycled kerbside - food, card, paper, cans, glass bottles and jars, foil, aerosols, plastic bottles
• Textiles, clothes, shoes (not collected kerbside until further notice)
• Wood, small electrical items
• Plastic pots, tubs, trays, Tetra Paks, other beverage cartons
(The range of materials for recycling is being widened step by step over time, based on the practicalities of each site and the success of social distancing. As and when other materials are added, announcements will be made; no dates yet.)

Not taken until further notice:
• Anything involving payment - hardcore, soil, tyres, gas bottles or vehicle parts
• Commercial waste
• Asbestos or plasterboard
(Compost is not available to buy)

Expect queues and delays. If queuing, turn off engine, maintain social distance with those waiting, and then unload on site swiftly to let others take your place.
